Following the road that leads to Samaipata we meet with the Codo de los Andes (the Elbow of the Andes) that has interesting and attractive pathways and a shelter in the Bella Vista community.
The ride through the narrow road is one of the most beautiful of the area; every curve presents new vistas to leave the tourist breathless.
The community-owned shelter has just been inaugurated; it has three comfortable rooms that could hold up to ten visitors; two baths, a kitchen, a dining room, a common lounge, and three camping areas with complete installations.
The Codo de los Andes offer includes walks through a series of perfectly prepared and maintained paths; there are three, four and seven-hour walks, and circuits of one or two days on offer; these are places where one can enjoy the transition between ecosystems with abundant flora and fauna, observing strange soft cactus species called “Monkey’s tails”, beautiful orchids, bromeliads and giant ferns. This area likewise becomes the ideal setting for observing many bird species, beautiful butterflies and some species of small mammals..
